Reverse Cellular Carrier Search

My problem the other day was I wanted to email a SMS text message to a friend's cell phone, but I didn't know the proper email address. I knew with my carrier, Verizon, the format is [phone no.]@vtext.com, and I figured there had to be a similar format for my buddy. I didn't know who his cellular carrier was, however, and I had no way of finding out other than to call him, which I couldn't do at that moment.

After brainstorming for a bit, I stumbled upon this solution. I went to whitepages.com and performed a Reverse Phone Number Lookup. I entered my friend's cell number, and while his name didn't come up, it did return his cellular provider as Sprint. Easy enough.

I then dug around for the proper Sprint email-to-SMS-text email address, and I found a site that listed the format for six carriers:

T-Mobile: phonenumber@tmomail.net
Virgin Mobile: phonenumber@vmobl.com
Cingular: phonenumber@cingularme.com
Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com
Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com

This nifty little trick will save me some texting fees when I want to drop a line to my friend while I'm sitting at my PC. By the way, the site I snagged those six email formats off of is http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/939/sms_email_cingular_nextel_sprint_tmobile_verizon_virgin
