After brainstorming for a bit, I stumbled upon this solution. I went to whitepages.com and performed a Reverse Phone Number Lookup. I entered my friend's cell number, and while his name didn't come up, it did return his cellular provider as Sprint. Easy enough.
I then dug around for the proper Sprint email-to-SMS-text email address, and I found a site that listed the format for six carriers:
T-Mobile: phonenumber@tmomail.net
Virgin Mobile: phonenumber@vmobl.com
Cingular: phonenumber@cingularme.com
Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.
Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com
Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.
This nifty little trick will save me some texting fees when I want to drop a line to my friend while I'm sitting at my PC. By the way, the site I snagged those six email formats off of is http://www.tech-recipes.com/
